Day Tours

Festival of the Fleeces

Now in its 27th year held at Merriwa in the Upper Hunter is a major family event drawing visitors state-wide who experience country hospitality at its best. We observe the skills of shearing past and present, blacksmiths, wool spinning, trained working dogs and handlers and of course the main event – running of the sheep, leading the parade along the main street wearing red socks (a sight to be seen).

Theatre Shows

Theatre Show “My Fair Lady”

My Fair Lady is an endearing tale that charms audiences with its warmth and vivid characters. The clash of cultures sparks some of music theatre’s most jubilant songs and witty dialogue. The triumphant score features unforgettable numbers including Wouldn’t It Be Loverly?, On The Street Where You Live, I Could Have Danced All Night and Get Me To The Church On Time. Don’t miss the music hailed by The Australian as “Miraculous, ridiculously beautiful” about the Cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle and the appealing arrogant phoneticist, Henry Higgins.

During the three weeks some of our highlights include experiencing Southern hospitality at two period homes in one amazing evening. Joe Stone plays the piano for us as we sip pre-dinner drinks, while Esther Carpenter – once listed among America’s top 20 female chefs – invites us to dinner in her home. We get to know the home of Rock ‘n’ Roll with our passionate Memphis expert and learn about the cities role in the civil rights movement. We learn about “white gold” and the stark contrasts between life on a modern and pre-Civil War plantation. We spend our last week on the “Big Muddy” aboard a paddlesteamer, the “American Queen”.
